On August 21 and 22, 2022, the 18th edition of the Valero Energy Foundation Golf Classic took place and netted $422,000, bringing the total raised to $6 million since 2004.
Every year, Valero Energy invites its partners in the business community to support the Valero Energy Foundation mission by taking part in the golf classic. This year, more than 70 companies and 200 golfers generously responded to the call to take part in this traditional philanthropic event.
By combining our strengths with those of local community organizations and by making a concerted response to address social issues, we collectively lay the groundwork for structuring and sustainable initiatives to take shape, which primarily benefit the citizens of our communities.
Offering common solutions to the challenges facing our communities
Funds raised during this major solidarity-building tournament are redistributed to community organizations in the Pointe-de-l’Île sector in Montreal and in Lévis where the Montreal-East Terminal and Valero’s Jean Gaulin Refinery are respectively located and along the pipeline Saint-Laurent that links both facilities.
The expertise these organizations have and their knowledge of local issues enable them to bring forward initiatives that improve conditions conducive to the academic success of hundreds of children.
The Valero Energy Foundation has developed large-scale partnerships with organizations such as Jeunes musiciens du monde, Alloprof and Éducaide, to name a few. The Foundation also supports the mission of the Centre de pédiatrie sociale de Lévis and the innovative mother-child program of the Fondation Portage.
By giving to actors in academic circles and in health or social services organizations the appropriate tools, awarding stay-in-school scholarships, enabling young people in risky environments to develop their passion or accompanying mothers as they pursue a future free of drug abuse, these partnerships help reduce the impact of social inequalities on the path taken by children.
The results of these partnerships show how important collaboration involving various actors in a given environment is in producing positive effects and creating social value-added.
