Recognizing that the cancer journey extends far beyond the treatment process for survivors and their loved ones, the Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation and Irving Oil recently contributed a total of $2 million to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation in New Brunswick, in support of Horizon Health’s Stay Strong Cancer Survivorship Program.
Through specialized exercise programs and regular workshops, the Stay Strong Cancer Survivorship Program helps support people surviving cancer and their families transition back to ‘regular’ life after cancer. The program has evolved into a community of cancer patients who care and support each other.
With these gifts from the Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation and Irving Oil, the Stay Strong program looks to further its reach and expand its offerings in helping more cancer survivors take control of their bodies and lives once they have completed their cancer treatment.
“We all know someone who has been impacted by cancer. It could be a family member, a friend or a colleague,” says Ian Whitcomb, President of Irving Oil. “We are proud to support this program and make a difference in the lives of cancer survivors and their families in our community.”
Irving Oil has a long-standing history of supporting local families when they need it most. Through partnerships with the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation and six other hospitals in Atlantic Canada, New England and Quebec, Irving Oil’s Fuel the Care program has provided fuel gift cards to more than 80,000 families travelling to receive medical care for their child.
