Imperial Sarnia site recently partnered with the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League to give families a memorable experience with their hometown hockey heroes. Hundreds of children descended on Lake Chipican in Sarnia on a frigid Saturday morning in January to play pond hockey alongside the Sting.
As the team bus turned the corner towards the frozen lake, participants began cheering. “With the pause on youth sports during the January lockdown in Ontario, we actively pursued an opportunity to bring some joy to young people in our community,” says Imperial Refinery Manager Glenn Hayes. “As the main sponsor of the Sarnia Sting, we contacted the organization and asked about partnering up to offer a community skate. The team jumped on the opportunity,” adds Glenn.
As part of the day, Imperial offered participants a hot chocolate warming station. The Facebook post featuring the event quickly went viral, and the comments were overwhelmingly positive. Imperial is planning more grassroots community events in 2022 to celebrate its 125 years of operations in Sarnia.
