Environmental Commitment

Land

What happens when service stations, refineries or other sites are retired?

Our members take full responsibility for restoring and remediating the land to provincial standards. First, the infrastructure is removed and then the site is secured, evaluated and monitored until it is fit for industrial, recreational, residential or commercial use.

As an example, one of our members’ former fuel storage facilities on Toronto’s waterfront was assessed and remediated. The 50-acre site is now home to Pinewood Toronto Studios.

Since 2009, Canadian Fuels members have remediated 1935 surplus sites.
